The Why
Bryan-David Scott introduces Songs of the Studio, a curated canon of music carrying memory, faith, grief, creativity, recovery, and becoming.
This playlist is a canon. A record of some of the music and songs I listen to when I am in this place. In this space, I find myself. I am free to be authentic. I can rage. I can hurt. I can celebrate. I can find peace and calm. I can simply ... be.
Music has always entered my life carrying the sounds of my life. People, rooms, cities, seasons, relationships, grief, celebration, faith, desire, work, memory, and versions of me I thought had disappeared.
The light changes. The room opens. Someone walks back in. A place begins breathing again. My body remembers before language arrives. The years between then and now collapse, and I am standing inside the experience with enough distance to see it and enough feeling to know it still matters.
That is where Songs of the Studio begins.
This collection is my curated canon of the music that has accompanied my writing, reflection, grief, celebration, faith, memory, creativity, longing, and becoming.
Every song earns its place.
A song enters because it carried consequence. It opened a memory. It held a person. It helped me survive a season. It gave motion to an idea that had remained still. It changed the emotional temperature of the room. It brought language closer. It allowed me to reach a truth I could feel long before I could explain it.
